Inclusions
- What's included in the tariff?
A stay at the lodge is generously inclusive of gourmet breakfast and three-course dinner with inspired daily changing menus, sunset drinks and canapés, an open bar with premium wines and spirits from 6pm (a cellarmasters list is available at an additional cost), non-alcoholic beverages, selected in-suite bar, complimentary adult mountain bikes and return Lord Howe Island Airport transfers.
Airfares are not included.
- Is there complimentary wifi?
The lodge offers complimentary wireless internet, however, due to the remote location of the lodge the connection can be slow and intermittent.
- Is there an airport transfer service?
The lodge operates complimentary transfers connecting with scheduled flights to and from Lord Howe Island Airport shared with fellow guests.
Policies
- What time is check-in/check-out?
Check-in time is 2pm and check-out time is 10.30am. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in and late check-out will be provided, however, these are unable to be guaranteed. The facilities of the main lodge are available for enjoyment whilst at the property.
- What is the lodge's smoking policy?
The lodge has a no-smoking policy in all suites and shared common areas. To smoke, please step outside onto the balcony or terrace.
- What is the minimum age for check-in?
Capella Lodge welcomes children ten years and over.
- What is the payment policy?
A credit card is required to confirm a reservation. Full prepayment is required two months prior to arrival. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express or direct deposit. Payment by Visa or MasterCard attracts a 1.6% surcharge; American Express payments attract a 2.47% surcharge (surcharges subject to change).
- What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations within two months of arrival 50% of total paid will be refunded. Within one month prior to arrival all monies will be forfeited. No refund can be given in the event of non-arrival, any unused services or unused nights due to flight or weather disruption. We recommend that you protect yourself with travel insurance.
Location
- How do you get there?
Lord Howe is situated in the Tasman Sea,600 kilometres north-east of Sydney in New South Wales. Just 11 kilometres long and 2.8 kilometres at its widest point, Lord Howe has 300 permanent residents, with visitors limited to 400 at any one time. Qantaslink operate regular daily two-hour flights from Sydney.
A checked baggage allowance of 23kg per person applies: the first bag up to 14kg and a second bag up to 9kg. However, if two bags are checked in, Qantaslink don’t guarantee that both bags will travel on your flight. We highly recommend taking one bag per person (up to 14kg). Luggage allowances cannot be combined (ie two people cannot take a single bag weighing 28kg). In addition, a premium carry-on baggage allowance of 7kg per person applies.
Eastern Air Services also operates flights to Lord Howe Island from Port Macquarie, Newcastle and the Gold Coast.
- What is the weather?
The subtropical maritime climate produces warm summers and mild winters. Daytime temperatures range from 25-28°C in summer and 18-22°C in winter. Generally, conditions are appropriate for swimming between September and May. Walking, hiking and many other activities are enjoyed year round. The climate is often likened to perpetual spring.
- What to wear?
Reflecting the easy-going nature of the island, dress is smart casual at Capella Lodge. Comfortable walking shoes, a warm top and rain jacket are recommended year-round. A hat and sunscreen are every-day essentials.
- What is the currency?
The official currency of Australia is Australian Dollars (AUD).
- What is the time zone?
Located in New South Wales, Capella Lodge follows Lord Howe Standard Time (LHST) which is 10 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +10:30).
- What is the language?
English is the official language of Australia.
- What is the electricity connection?
Mains voltage in Australia is 230V 50Hz. The plugs in Australia have two flat metal pins shaped live a ‘V’ and some may contain a third flat pin in the centre.
- Is there mobile/cell reception on Lord Howe Island?
There is no mobile phone coverage on Lord Howe Island, however, calls can be made using WiFi via various apps such as WhatsApp.
Dining
- Do you offer room service?
As the lodge thrives on a convivial atmosphere, in-suite dining isn’t offered.
- Do you cater for dietary requirements?
As the lodge is situated in a remote destination, it’s essential to advise any special dietary needs at the time of reservation. We will do our best to tailor menus accordingly whilst providing opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of premium regional produce. Should notice not be provided in advance, our chefs will endeavour to prepare suitable meals with the ingredients available. We regret we are unable to prepare meals requiring strict religious observance in the preparation.
- What hours are meals usually served?
The Capella Restaurant is open as follows:
Breakfast 8am – 10am
Lunch 12pm – 2pm
Dinner 6.30pm – 8pm - Does the lodge restaurant accept bookings by non-guests?
Capella Lodge is an intimate lodge with a focus on personal service ensuring an exceptional experience for our guests. As such, lodge facilities including the restaurant and spa are reserved for the exclusive use of in-house guests.

- Do you have a fitness centre/gym?
We do not have a fitness centre onsite.
- Is there a swimming pool?
A wet edge plunge pool is located on Gower’s Terrace, with views over Lovers Bay and the twin peaks, Mounts Gower and Lidgbird.
- Are there walking or hiking tracks from the lodge?
With Capella Lodge as one’s own basecamp, guests take to walking tracks to explore subtropical forests, remote coves alive with magnificent birdlife and valleys brimming with ancient plants. The simplest routes are easy for walkers of any fitness, while the most challenging is the guided climb to Mount Gower’s summit, renowned as one of the best adventure hikes in Australia.
